Onyx at the Preserve

Completed Summer 2026

The Green Roof at Onyx at the Preserve softens a solid concrete coffee building on Walmart's campus with a living, sculptural landscape, buried under soil on two sides so the campus trail system can ramp directly up and over it. Native Arkansas plantings blanket the roof, and two overhanging sections feature a custom sedum mix, creating a seamless connection between architecture and the surrounding trail network.

Recently completed, the project called for an installation method new to JONESPLAN: a soil-stabilizing system anchored into the overhangs' steep, harnessed slopes. Crews proved out the approach on a full-scale mock-up before ever touching the finished building, then planted the overhangs entirely in sedum mat grown as a field crop and shipped refrigerated all the way from Canada.

This project showcases JONESPLAN's hands-on craftsmanship, coordinating closely with the design team and trade partners on an active, ever-changing jobsite to bring a bold architectural vision to life, safely and without incident.
